The interest for Japanese popular culture is gradually becoming one of the biggest movements in contemporary Western youth culture.
Sweden, a country with a population of 9 million people located in northern Europe, is no exception. The Japan boom among the young people of Sweden started with anime and manga (Japanese animation and comics) in the early years of the 21st century and have, with the help of the country's well developed high speed Internet connections, continued with an increasing interest for music, fashion, various subcultures and everything uniquely Japanese.
Although several anime fan-conventions are held in Sweden every year, the biggest one being Uppcon, seeing more than 2000 attendees each time, there has been a lack of a professional convention targeted to both the hardcore fans of Japanese popular culture and the business surrounding it.
STHLM Japan Expo 2009 will be held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, for three days during the summer of 2009 and will be Sweden's first major arrangement regarding Japanese popular culture that offers both concerts, standard convention activities and an exhibition hall where companies dealing with Japan in one way or another can interact with their target groups.
